Decadence on a Sunday

Those who know me know that my life constantly revolves around good food and creation of good food. Why I’m not over 200 lbs is still beyond me. The last two or three weekends or so, I have been host of and attended many dinner type parties revolving around trying my hand at different types of food. From Japanese curry night to sushi to Korean style fried chicken, I am almost sick of food.

Except this Sunday, when suddenly my flatmate turned to me and announced that she was bored and was going to make a cheesecake.

I countered with: “Soooo… cheesecake and steak night?”

And thus, the epic Sunday was born.

We had a hard time finding strawberries up in cold Aberdeen that day so substituted a half of the sauce with blueberries instead. It turned out delicious. It was a bit on the sweet side but hey, when it’s cold outside, there shouldn’t be any reservations on food since it’s the only thing keeping you warm. The cheesecake itself turned out quite well I thought. She said she got the recipe off of Food Network.com

We then trekked to the nearest supermarket to get things for dinner that night (specifically, the steaks). And it being Aberdeen and crazy, it started to snow/hail painfully as we were walking. It wouldn’t have been so bad if it wasn’t blowing into our faces. As it stands, we worked for our steaks that night.

Sirloin steak with garlic butter and a side of roasted asparagus and mashed potatoes! Simple, fast and delicious.

All in all, a very very full Sunday.

First off, let me just say: thanks to everybody who has been following me and actually reading this slice of insanity on the internet. There’s quite a few more rants about things/events/people I’ve met during my time here but I might save all that for another blog some other time.

Thank you for the 1000+ hits! I know it might not seem like a lot but it sure is a hell lot more than I was expecting!

But let’s move on to the interesting stuff. For sure, you’ve read up to this point of my post and have been thinking what thanking anonymous visitors have go to do with masturbation (you dirty pervert you).

Those who know me know that I have an almost unhealthy obsession with the subject of sexuality.

I find the subject (and how people view/deal with the industry and subject) really interesting. So, for my MSc dissertation, I have decided to take a look at how public institutions like the library deal with the incorporation of materials that would be considered erotic/pornographic into their collection and whether or not there is an aspect of censorship in the management of acquisitions and collections. Though the subject itself still needs quite a bit of work and for me to narrow my focus down to specific aspects, it is still pretty damn interesting stuff! The reality of how we view “real” sex and “ideal” sex is quite disconcerting which makes the subject all the more fascinating.

But what does that have to do with masturbation?

That was what I thought too until I started reading into it.

Did you know that there have been many cases of homeless (though not always, just a majority of the time) men habitually use public library computers to stream porn and masturbate?

Did you know that there was a case where a homeless man was streaming porn in the public library and masturbating… while a group of guys stood around him and watched over his shoulder? [That was the most disconcerting case I’ve read about]

Did you also know that in certain library collections where they do carry Playboy magazine for its literary purposes, librarians have consistently discovered fresh semen between its pages?

I know the whole “sexy librarian” thing is a bit of a stereotype… but this goes way beyond that. WAY beyond that.

To be fair, I have had conversations before with people where the subject of “Where was the craziest place you’ve done it?” and more often than not, the library comes up as one of the most common places. There are dark nooks and crannies where students usually don’t venture into because it is away from the stacks or because it is too dark to study.

The best idea to utilise that space? Have crazy undergraduate student sex, obviously.

I suppose that is one way to get people to use the library more often.

And it’s going to make my placement in an academic library in Edinburgh quite a bit more interesting(disturbing?).
